Patrick Palmer

PatrickPatrick Palmer is an oil painter in the great spirit of classical Irish painters. He explores the inescapable beauty of light and colour in landscape and in the details of his surroundings, communicating their significance through the richness of oil paint and his clean sense of design.

Patrick Palmer was born and raised in Co Waterford, Ireland, studied at the College of Art, and worked for many years in advertising in Dublin...After a few exciting years at ARKS, the great agency of the 1960's and '70's, he began his travels, living , painting, finding his bliss throughout the world as a young man, eager to learn and see as much as he could.

Patrick suspended his travels in San Francisco in '79, finding love and happiness at the height of the great days of Rock and Roll. He worked for many years as the designer of all tour books, posters and merchandise for the biggest rock bands coming through the West Coast under the auspices of Bill Graham Presents, then the greatest producer of concerts and events in California. Patrick created art and product for Jimmy Hendricks, The Rolling Stones, Madonna, Ozzie Osbourne, Bruce Springsteen, U2, The Grateful Dead, and many many others. ...And when he finally decided to move back to Ireland to paint and renew his sense of reality after 28 years, he did so with a broader perspective on the light, colour, sea, sky and landscape of his beloved homeland...regenerating in his mind the magical images of childhood and tradition long submerged in the dynamic yet always foreign otherworld of California.

Coming home to Ireland has meant seeing it changed and altered on some of its surfaces, yet always the same in its fundamental and natural visual beauty. Patrick's paintings of still-life and landscape, animals and seascapes are vehicles upon which the onlooker glides into his or her own connection and experience of the Irish vision. Irish colour and Irish light are the catalysts for Patrick's creative energy which has translated into his recent collections of beautiful work.
